TOPIC 1 : GET READY TO LEARN

We as a university student , we need to realize that we have entered the universe where we need to be wise indetermining something whether its good or bad . We need to be more responsible in arranging our university’s life. We need to be positive physically and mentally to solve our daily challenges wisely. In this university life , no one will take care of you rather than yourself . No family , no mom , no dad to watch you in close but they are praying for us from afar so remember to always keep your chin up . We also need to remember the main reason why we further our studies here. This is because there are many differences between school’s life and university’s life.

TYPES OF LEARNER

In the classroom it is clear that not all students learn in the same way.  It is important for both the teachers and the student to be aware of their own learning style as this effects their behaviour in class and their response to different activities and material in class.

The three most common learning styles are:

Visual learners like working with visual information when learning English.

Auditory learners like receiving information by listening and responding.

Kinaesthetic learners like to include physical activities in the learning process.

Visual Learners:

•Prefer seen or observed things such as pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, handouts, films, flip charts etc

•Will say ‘show me’ and ‘let me see that’ and complete tasks more effectively if they see a demonstration first or read some instructions.

•Work well with lists, written directions and instructions.
•Enjoy a grammar lesson taught through a context created by pictures and drawings.

•Write better with tasks based on graphs and tables.

•Learn better by underlining and highlighting in different colours.

*Study Tips for Visual Learners*

•Underline, highlight, or circle printed material.

•Draw pictures in notes to illustrate ideas.

•Use a variety of colours-in pens, highlighters, note cards, etc. for different categories or concepts.

•Write it out.

•Use outlines, pictures, graphs, charts and diagrams.

•Make mind maps.

•Look at your lecturer and others when they talk to help you focus and to pick up on body language.

•Make and use flashcards for studying vocabulary.

•Study in a quiet place away from verbal disturbances.

•Make your study area visually appealing.

Auditory Learners:

•Prefer the transfer of information through listening, either to the spoken word or sounds and noises.

•Will say ‘tell me’ or ‘let’s talk it over’ and will complete a task more successfully after listening to instructions.

•Are able to handle spoken instructions and directions over the phone.
•Can remember song lyrics.

•Enjoy mingling activities and information gap tasks.

•Respond well to drills when learning new grammar structures and also to teacher’s oral questions.

•Benefit from spending time in quiet places to recall ideas.

•Should record summarized notes and listen to them.

Study Tip for Auditory Learners :

*Study in groups and talk things out

*Record the lesson

*Reduce lecture notes to main ideas

*Listen to audio books while driving

*Read questions aloud

*Work out problems aloud

*Sit in the front of the class

*Learn by participating in class discussions

*Create mnemonics to aid memorization

*Explain ideas to other people

Kinaesthetic Learners:

  • Prefer physical experience – touching, feeling, holding, doing, hands-on experiences
  • Will remember the ‘real’ things that happened.
  • Will say ‘let me try’ and ‘how do you feel?’ and will perform tasks better by going ahead and trying it out, learning as they go
  • Like to experiment and tend not to look at instructions first
  • Enjoy moving around the classroom with mingling and Find Someone Who activities
  • Like running dictations where students have to run to a text and run back to  their group to dictate what they can remember.
  • Learn and recall more by talking it through with another kinaesthetic learner

Study Tips for Kinaesthetic Learners :

  • Get hands on-don’t just watch someone else do it
  • Draw charts or diagrams of relationships
  • Skim through reading material to get a rough idea of what it’s about before looking for details
  • Use finger or bookmark as a guide while reading
  • Write, copy, underline and highlight with bright colours
  • Take frequent study breaks
  • Transfer reduced information to flashcards
  • Move around to learn new things (i.e. read while walking or on an exercise bike to learn a new concept)
  • Work in a standing position
  • Study or brainstorm while walking or working out
  • Study with a friend or group
  • Try listening to non-distracting music

It is important to discover your learning styles as it indicates the way we’re “wired” and this can help use to be more successful in our learning.

(learning style inventory test)

How the test works is you will have to answer the yes-or-no questions and write down the numbers with answers yes. Next, classify the numbers to which is V, A and K. V stands for visual, A stands for auditory and K is kinaesthetic. These are the three main learning styles. Sum up the total value from each class and the number with the highest number will be learning style.

This test has revealed that I am a visual learner, which means that visualization is the most effective way for me to study. To study, I can learn through reading and viewing a video.

TOPIC 2: GOALS SETTING

Goal setting encourages a growth mindset. It also supports the development of skills students need to be prepared for their future careers

1. GOAL STATEMENT

• I want to get 3.5 pointer and above in every semester

2. OBSTACLE TO ARCHIVE MY GOAL

• Do not understand what is taught
• Easily to not focusing in class

3. MY WAYS TO SOLVE THE OBSTACLE

•Sit in front in the class to more focus
• Get enough sleep
*Asked the lecturer a topic that I do not understand

A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envisions, plans and commits to achieve. People endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.

TOPIC 3: LIBRARY AND CAMPUS RESOURCES

The Library Of Uitm Cawangan Perak Campus Seri Iskandar

The Main Office of Uitm Cawangan Perak Campus Seri Iskandar

TOPIC 4: TIME MANAGEMENT

FIXED-COMMITMENT CALANDER

I think when I am entering the university life , one of the most difficult things to do is schedule study time. In high school, you spent more time in class than you do now that you are in college. In college, it is up to you to make sure you are studying as much as you need to. Managing your time effectively is crucial to you success.

TOPIC 5: MEMORY, LEARNING AND IMPROVING CONCENTRATION

MEMORY STRATEGIES:
• Always practice of memory techniques like use visual, audio and kinesthetic style.
• Repeat the information many times.
• Do elaboration strategies using mind maps or imagenery
• Use short or easy words that you can always remember it.

SENSORY MEMORY

Sensory information is temporarily held in sensory memory before being transferred to short-term memory. Sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch are the five conventional senses of humans. Sensory memory (SM) is the ability for people to remember sensory experiences after the stimuli has stopped.

According to the National Training Laboratory, most students only recall approximately 10% of what they read in textbooks, but nearly 90% of what they learn by teaching others. As a result, students should use all of their sensors when studying because it is more effective than using simply one.

SHORT TERM MEMORY
Short-term memory is the ability to keep a tiny amount of knowledge in mind in an active, readily available state for a short length of time without changing it. Short-term memory, for example, can be utilised to recall information that is considered to be on the order of seconds.

LONG TERM MEMORY
Long-term memory refers to the transfer of information from short-term memory into long-term storage in order to create enduring memories. This type of memory is unlimited in capacity and stable—lasting for years or even a lifetime. Short-term memories can become long-term memories through a process known as consolidation.

How do I fix weak memory ?

•Include physical activity in your daily routine

•Stay mentally active

•Eat a healthy diet

•Manage chronic conditions

•Sleep well

•Get organized

•Vary your study routine

•Think in pictures and colours

Here are 7 ways to enhance organizational skills :

    1) Start with sorting

    2) Use a checklist

    3) Emphasize Brevity

    4) Leverage College Planners

    5) Use Visual Toolls

    6) Assign " Buddies "

    7) Schedule Cleaning Time

Memory Strategies

Memory strategies is important because it will help students in their encoding, storing, and retrieving the information (help to remember and recall).

Organizational Strategies

Organize things into 3 groups or category to remember. You also can remember more than 4 items in each category quite easily because the headings help trigger your memory.

Concentration Strategies

Concentration means focusing your attention on what you are doing.

Causes of poor concentration:

-       Lack of attention

-       Lack of interest

-       Lack of motivation

-       Distraction

-       Uncomfortable environment

-       Illness, tiredness (Physiological)

-       Personal problems, anxieties (Psychological)

TOPIC 6: TAKING LECTURES NOTES

WHAT IS NOTE TAKING?

-Note taking (also known as note-taking or note-taking) is the habit of keeping track of information from many sources and platforms. By taking notes, the writer captures the substance of the information and relieves their mind of the burden of remembering everything.

WHY TAKE NOTE?

  • It might assist us in paying attention in class.
  • Assist us in studying for a quiz, a test, or a final exam.
  • Assist us in improving our memory.
  • Assist us in taking ownership of our ideas.
  • Please assist us in engaging your senses.
  • Aid in the organisation and processing of our data and information
  • Assist the lecturer in assessing the student's comprehension of the material presented.

SURVEY - Review the content to get a sense of what the title, subtitle, or chapter introduction
micaro

QUESTION - While reading, create a query to keep our minds on the lookout for an answer.

READ - For further details, read the text. And figure out what the answer is to the question that has been posed.

RECITE - respond to the question that you posed. Without looking at the text, recite the solution in your own words.

REVIEW - Examine your response as well as the text. Also, inquire as to what your text Is mostly about. Recalling the question and attempting to answer it once more. Recheck it till you get the correct answer.

TOPIC 7 : ACADEMIC INTERGRITY AND PERFORMANCE

What is considered Plagiarism ?

Plagiarism is usually couched in strong language about the seriousness of the offense. The plagiarize, as defined by the " Merriam-Webster Dictionary " means to steal and pass off ( ideas or words of another ) as its own and to commit literary theft by failing acknowledge or cite source material.

What is CGPA?

Reported value at the end of semester or the period of study.  It shows the achievement of students in mastering eight domains of learning outcomes.

To sum up, by completing this assignment I got to learn many new different strategies of learning depending on what kind of learner are we. Thank you to my beautiful lecturer for helping and guiding throughout this processed. Lastly, I hope this blog helps students whose still wondering what type of learner they are. That is all from me. THANK YOU!
